Ah Boh and the one dollar gambler

1) Ah Boh in Lottery has about one dollar, there’s a “blind man,” the number 13 and ultimately zero dollars to bet. These last examples are taken from One-Dollar Gambler. Show how they also relate to Ah Boh.

In the story the Lottery, Ah Boh would spend all her money to play gambling, and this is the same for the one-dollar gambler. He would spend all his money to play gambling instead of buying the necessities of life which he needs to fill his stomach. In the lottery, even when Ah Boh opened up a post savings account to save monthly, in the end she still took out the money to play gambling. Both characters in both stories are excessive gamblers and would gamble till their last cent without caring for their body, or even if they are hungry, they would rather gamble than to eat. This shows that we must not gamble excessively or else we will suffer and pay the consequences.

IT Emergency Lesson 4: Gambling

1)For Lottery , do an analysis of 100 words in which you look at Ah Boh's superstitions regarding gambling.

I think Ah Boh's superstitions regarding gambling are too unrealistic, as nobody can win a prize lottery by just begging God to help them, and promising what they want to do if they win. They feel that, if they told God this, God would help them to win so that they can carry out the things they promised. But in fact, they just told God this and if they really strike Four-Digits or Toto, it would be their luck instead of God helping them. But they would feel that it was God that helped them, and instead of using their money to carry out the things they have promised, they would use the money to do more gambling and would pray harder than ever to God for them to strike Four-Digits or Toto another time.

2)For The Rocking Horse Winner, write a paragraph of 100 words in which you point out who was responsible for Paul's death.

I think the person who was responsible for Paul's death is his uncle, Uncle Oscar and Bassett. I think they are responsible because they never stopped Paul from gambling on the Horse Racing, but yet they continued to encourage him, and Uncle Oscar even brought Paul to the stadium to watch Horse Racing with him, and helped him to buy whatever Horse he betted on, and soon, Paul became addicted to Horse Racing gambling but everytime he knew which horse would come in first, and he would bet on that horse. And sure enough, that horse would win. But soon his mother found out that he was possessed with Horse Racing gambling, and one day found out that he was actually riding his toy horse and he woudl shout out the name of the horse that would win. And the next day he told his mother that he was very lucky and when his mother claimed that she did not know about him being lucky, he went grievous and I think he commited suicide.

IT Emergency Lesson 3: Analyzing & Composing Poem

I think the author's thoughts were that he likes to be in Secondary school as he mentions that his friend did a heroic thing when he shaded all 'A's in his Chinese Language paper, which means that firstly, he has a friend, which means that he is settling down i the school quite comfortably. Secondly, he thinks it is a joke to shade all the same answer in an examination, which is actually quite stupid, but he finds it funny, so that means he and his friend have been planning which each other, which means their communications are good. I think he savours the thoughts of these memories as once the event has passed, there is absolutely no way of turning back the clock to redo or undo the things that you have done. Thus I think that he savours thoughts of his days back then.
I share the same sentiments. At first I felt that big numbers were certainly unreasonable as how could they ask a small kid at that time to handle such huge numbers without difficulty? And calculators were forbidden at that point of time! I felt that it was really funny for my friend to shade almost all the questions with the same answer, but in the end he failed the test while I passed. But yet i still felt it was a joke, and thus I did not calm him down. The next day, he came back with many strokes on his face, and when he explained to me what had happened to him, I finally realised that in an examination we must not play, but instead focus on it. I told him that, and he nodded his head in agreement. Thus, we soon became the 'all-pass' people in our class, which were quite rare in Primary 1.

My poem:
Planning Planning
about the test
we planned a joke
to put it to test

we entered the class
smiling broadly
to test the joke
very slyly

I peeked at him
and only to see him grinning
I looked down at mine
and I continued writing

results came back
and I had acceptable grades
yet he failed
but we continued to play with our hand made blades

IT Emergency Lesson 2: Favourite Poet

The poet that I chose is Patrick Kavanagh. He is intriguing as he is regarded as one of the foremost poets in the 20th century, and his best known works include the novel Tarry Flynn and the poem On Raglan Road. His work can best be categorised as detailed accounts of rural Irish life and religion in Ireland. Kavanagh began writing verses at a young age and he began submitting poems to local and national newspapers. He became increasingly dissatisfied with life as a small farmer, and in 1938 he left Inniskeen for London and remained there for about five months. In 1939 he finally settled in Dublin. That was Kavanagh's early life. By the early 1940s his poems were beginning to attract attention of the literacy circle. He also played goalkeeper for the Inniskeen Gaelic football team. Kavanagh worked as a journalist when he was in Dublin, writing a gossip column in the then Irish Press from 1942 to 1944 and acted as film critic for that same publication from 1945 to 1949. His novel, ’Tarry Flynn', was banned in Ireland, but was made into a play in 1966. In 1954, two major events changed Kavanagh's life: firstly, he embarked on a libel action and ended up being defeated; Kavanagh was diagnosed with lung cancer and had one of his lungs removed. While Kavanagh was recovering, it was then he appreciated nature and took inspiration from it and used it to write much of his later poetry.
He gave lectures at University College Dublin and in the United States, and he published his own journal "Kavanagh Weekly, A Journal of Literature and Politics" and had thirteen editions on it. Kavanagh fell ill at the opening performance of "Tarry Flynn" at the Abbey Theatre and he died later that week in a Dublin nursing home on 30 November 1967.

Three poems Kavanagh wrote were: Advent, Canal Bank Walk and Epic.

Advent:

We have tested and tasted too much, lover-
Through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.
But here in the Advent-darkened room
Where the dry black bread and the sugarless tea
Of penance will charm back the luxury
Of a child's soul, we'll return to Doom
The knowledge we stole but could not use.

And the newness that was in every stale thing
When we looked at it as children: the spirit-shocking
Wonder in a black slanting Ulster hill
Or the prophetic astonishment in the tedious talking
Of an old fool will awake for us and bring
You and me to the yard gate to watch the whins
And the bog-holes, cart-tracks, old stables where Time begins.

O after Christmas we'll have no need to go searching
For the difference that sets an old phrase burning-
We'll hear it in the whispered argument of a churning
Or in the streets where the village boys are lurching.
And we'll hear it among decent men too
Who barrow dung in gardens under trees,
Wherever life pours ordinary plenty.
Won't we be rich, my love and I, and
God we shall not ask for reason's payment,
The why of heart-breaking strangeness in dreeping hedges
Nor analyse God's breath in common statement.
We have thrown into the dust-bin the clay-minted wages
Of pleasure, knowledge and the conscious hour-
And Christ comes with a January flower.

Canal Bank Walk:

Leafy-with-love banks and the green waters of the canal
Pouring redemption for me, that I do
The will of God, wallow in the habitual, the banal,
Grow with nature again as before I grew.
The bright stick trapped, the breeze adding a third
Party to the couple kissing on an old seat,
And a bird gathering materials for the nest for the Word
Eloquently new and abandoned to its delirious beat.
O unworn world enrapture me, encapture me in a web
Of fabulous grass and eternal voices by a beech,
Feed the gaping need of my senses, give me ad lib
To pray unselfconsciously with overflowing speech
For this soul needs to be honoured with a new dress woven
From green and blue things and arguments that cannot be proven.

Epic:

I have lived in important places, times
When great events were decided, who owned
That half a rood of rock, a no-man's land
Surrounded by our pitchfork-armed claims.
I heard the Duffys shouting "Damn your soul"
And old McCabe stripped to the waist, seen
Step the plot defying blue cast-steel—
"Here is the march along these iron stones"
That was the year of the Munich bother. Which
Was more important? I inclined
To lose my faith in Ballyrush and Gortin
Til Homer's ghost came whispering to my mind
He said: I made the Iliad from such
A local row. Gods make their own importance.

IT Emergency Lesson 1: Figurative Language: My poem

This is the poem I choose. It is called 'Messy Room'.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

1. How are the figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language?
I think Hyperbole is most commonly used in this poem. This poem is quite exaggerated as they used some 'bombastic' words such as jammed. The words that shows Hyperbole is jammed, oh dear, smelly old sock, huh. I think the poet chose to use hyperbole is because he/she is describing a room that is very messy, and he must sound irritated or angry.

2. Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.
I like this poem because it is funny, where it shows that the underwear is hung over a lamp, that is so unusual unless the underwear is being flung from somewhere and it got stuck on top of the lamp. The poem is also very descriptive, it tells us what the room looks like very clearly, and thus we are able to picture it in our minds, and thus we are able to see how messy the person whom the poet is describing is. And the ending of the poem is very drastic, the poet led us to think that the room belongs to someone else's. But in the end they said "huh, you say its mine" and the quote oh dear, i thought it looked familiar showed that the room belonged to the poet himself/herself.

Blog prompt: Fire emblem the Sacred Stones (FE8) Small Guide

The countries in Magvel, which includes Frelia, Rausten, Carcino, Grado, Renais and Jehanna, once lived in peace and harmony. But Grado's emperor, Virgarde, has started a war against the whole country, but Grado was the largest and most powerful country in Magvel. This was unusual to all living in Magvel, and Virgarde has commanded his troops to conquer certain countries in Magvel, so as to make sure Magvel will no more be consisting of many countries, but only Grado. So, Grado invaded Renais, which is the home of the two main characters, namely Eirika and Ephraim, and their father, Fado. Grado's forces conquered Renais, and Fado has ordered them to leave, while he fights to his death. Ephraim escapes ahead of them, and decides he will take on Virgarde alone. Eirika escapes with Seth, a loyal and faithful servant of Fado. Fado has given Seth and Eirika orders to stop the Grado forces and try to return peace to the land, and so, they set off on their journey.
You start off as Eirika, where she must seize the thrones of places that she is destined to go, but be warned, it is not that of a simple task only to charge forth and command Eirika to seize the throne. There are enemies to defeat, and bosses too, whom are guarding the throne, and you must defeat him/her in order to seize the throne. In some cases, however, you must defeat all enemies in order to proceed to the next level, but in this case, chapter. You are progressing through a story, where you go through chapters till the very end. You have allies, some good ones, and some just needs training in order for them to be good and aid you through your mission. Characters change classes, and become stronger from then on, which some of them will be even more powerful when they have multiple allies of the same class, such as the Falcoknight. They specialise in the Triangle attack, which needs three of them to surround a monster or enemy and from there they will do three times the normal damage to the moster or enemy.
For the characters, these are the characters you are about to have or must recruit as you progress. I will proceed up till chapter 8 where I will explain more. If you already know this, just skip this part and read the second part.

Chapter Prologue: Characters will be Eirika and Seth which will be automatically given.

Chapter 1: Characters will be Franz and Gilliam which will be automatically given.

Chapter 2: Characters will be Vanessa, Moulder, Garcia and Ross which Vanessa and Moulder will be automatically given and Garcia and Ross must be recruited.

Chapter 3: Characters will be Neimi and Colm which Neimi will be automatically given and Colm must be recruited.

Chapter 4: Characters will be Artur and Lute which Artur will be automatically given and Lute must be collected from the village at the south.

Chapter 5: Characters will be Natasha and Joshua which Natasha will be automatically given and Joshua must be recruited.

Chapter 5x: Characters will be Ephraim, Orson, Kyle and Forde which all of them will only be available for this chapter. There is no need to worry, they all be in your party in the future.

Chapter 6: There will be no extra characters for this chapter.

Chapter 7: There will be no extra characters for this chapter.

Chapter 8: Characters will be Ephraim, Forde and Kyle which will be automatically given. It will only stay for this chapter before they part ways.

So I have discussed till Chapter 8 where you will fight you first formidable opponent (actually he is not that formidable, just that you by that time, you level is still too low). All chapters have names, and so do all bosses. the rest might just be called 'Brigand', or 'Enemy'. If you see a person with an actual name, excluding the bosses, that means you can recruit that character, regardless of whether it is in the other team or enemy team. If the character that can be recruited is in the enemy team, you must be extra careful in recruiting them as when they strike you, you might accidentally kill them or they might accidentally kill you. And when a character dies, the cahracter cannot be revived ever again, and so when one of your character dies, I recommend that you restart the chapter again, regardless of how far you progressed into the chapter. Do not ever save the game.
I also mentioned previously on the parting of ways. You may ask, what does it mean? Well, the story goes like this: After Chapter 8, Eirika and Ephraim returm to Frelia castle, where they call upon a meeting and decide where to go. After their discussion, you will be allowed to choose which character you want to follow. Basically, Ephraim's route to Grado is more difficult and more dangerous then Eirika's. Ephraim will go to Grado, which on Chapter 14, you will take on Virgarde himself. Virgarde's stats are high, so beware, quite a formidable opponent to you at that time.
Ok, now about class changing. You will think that you will just need to achieve a certain level and they will automatically change the class for you. Well, this only happens for the very basic classes, namely Recruit, Pupil and Journeyman, which are Amelia, Ewan and Ross respectively. They start from humble beginnings, very low stats, easily striked, low avoidability, so on so forth. But when they approach the last class, they are are the ones who have the best stats around. The max level for the this game is level 20, and as you level up, your stats will be increased. But this is due to luck and only luck. Some levels, all your stats can be pumped, but for some and extremely rare cases, your stats do not even get pumped at all.

Ok, i will stop here. Wait for the next update! Sorry.

The book that made an impact on my parent's life

The book that made an impact on my parent's life is the book called 'Chariots of the gods.
This is the summary of the documentary which has originated from the book:
The German documentary Chariots of the Gods attempts to lend credence to the speculative best-seller by Eric Von Daniken. Using the most tenuous of evidence -- pyramids, curiously plowed farm fields, obscured-origin artifacts -- Von Daniken strived to prove that mankind's ancient civilizations had been visited by extraterrestrials. American documentary producer Alan Landsburg bought the US rights for Chariots of the Gods, transforming it into a more compact TV special, In Search of the Ancient Astronauts. Landsburg also replaced the German film's narration with the cadences of Twilight Zone mentor Rod Serling.
Source: Hal Erikson, (Date Not stated). Fandango. Retrieved June 25, 2009, from Chariots of the Gods sypnosis Web site: http://www.fandango.com/chariotsofthegods_v8930/summary
My parent claimed that it changed his way of viewing religion after reading the book, but did not elaborate.

Which part of village by the sea do you like best?

The part in village by the sea that i like best is when Hari works in Bombay. I like it because i can feel the determination in Hari to work all he can and only sleeps when he is extremely exhausted from work. I like his deterination to work and he is determined to work for long hours a day so as to be able to be really worthy of his salary. I think that he is determined to work as his father only sleeps at home and not helpng in fishing or earning money, and his family needs to stock up on daily needs which are running low. After reading that part of the story, I feel really sorry for him as he should be in school studying so that in future he can become a businessman or some other job that is recognised. Yet, he has to work. Fortunately, there are some benefactors around him, such as Jagu and Mr. Panwallah. Jagu gave him money and free food, and also a place to stay. Mr Panwallah gave him the money when he repaired a watch. Hari has to adapt to this new lifestyle when he works, but he adapted to it quite easily. As Mr Panwallah said, the wheel turns and turns.
That is why i like the part in village be the sea where Hari went to work.

Which character do you like most in the Village by the Sea?

The character I like most in the book Village by the sea is Hari. I like Hari because of his determination to do the things that he wants, and he espescially hates people who are lazy, such as his drunk father whom always goes out every night to drink beer. His father sold all his possessions such as his fishing boat so as to be able to buy beer for himself. And because of this, Hari has to work now and is now the breadwinner of the family. Hari is also a hardworking boy. He works most of the day in Bombay so as to earn as much money as possible for his family. Since he is already supplied with food, he does not need to spend his money that he earned on buying his food, and thus he can save it for his family when he returns home. Hari cares for his family very much, especially his sisters and his mother. When he earned his money from working, he spent some of it in buying bracelets for his sisters, and sweets too, as he knows they loves sweets and bracelets.
When his mother needed extra attention as she was extremely sick, Lila, the oldest child at home, takes care of the mum. When Lila asked Hari to buy ice to cool their mum down, when Hari could have easily said no and did not want to buy ice as he was very tired, but instead got up automatically and bought the ice for their mum.
That is why Hari is my favourite character in the book Village by the sea.

Confessions of a past video game addict

I am a past video game addict. My parents always give disapproving faces when I tell them that I have done my homework and I want to play the computer, which in actual fact I have not done my homework. I always shove it aside and wait till the next day when my 'friends' have reached school and I copy their answers. Usually i spend about 15 hours a day playing the computer over the weekends, and on weekdays I spend about 8 hours a day playing the computer, sleeping mostly at one in the morning. I thought playing the computer would help me get better grades than before, which I had read in the newspapers that studies have shown that playing computer games can help relieve stress and thus help you concentrate better and help you get better grades.
But I have been playing for so long and instead of getting better grades, i find my grades going downhill, like an uncontrollable ball of snow rolling down the hill at an amazing speed. As stated, playing computer games help to relieve stress and in the end help you get better grades, yet mine is to get worse grades than before. I question myself at times, does playing the computer really help me get better grades, or even worse? But as people always trust the newspapers and what is wriiten in it, I decided to follow the trend and believe in everything they say instead of doing my own research on what is wrong and scrutinizing my wrongdoings.
Now, my results are hitting the zero mark from once a full mark score. I built castles in the air when my teacher was teaching all the facts that was supposed to be applied in the examinations. the castles I built were all on gaming.
Last time I felt irritated with my parents when they forbid me to play the computer. I was always thinking what was wrong with playing too much computer games. It felt like and eternity before I finally realised that excessive computer gaming was affecting my life badly. How I knew? Well, my friend that introduced to me the game told me that he had seen me playing the game for more than 8 hours on weekdays and he saw that I looked drowsy during curriculm hours. one day, he stood up bravely and told me that I must not play too excessively as it has affected my studies really badly. After hearing that, I thought that he was such a stupid guy to say that, but after a long reflection, something shocked me. It was time to wake up. I had to turn over a new leaf. I tried to control myself from playing, refrain myself from staring into that 'hideous' computer screen, but my willpower always relented. I cried to my parents one day. to tell them that I did not want to play the computer anymore and I had realised my mistake and my future would be badly affected, and my parents were beaming at me, I could tell, how brave I was to tell them that I wanted to give up gaming or to cut down on gaming times. Either way was excellent to my parents. Encouragement was the first thing that popped into my mind. I needed encouragement in order to stop playing for so long. My parents drew a schedule which I was to follow strictly. 2 hours of gaming seemed to short for me on weekends, but I was changing, and simply nodded in agreement.
Few weeks passed, and I finally managed to kick the habit of gaming 8-15 hours a day.Proudness shone over me, and I felt that I should be given a prize. Yes, in the end I gave myself a prize, a prize so priceless, so valuable, which was a greater willpower to overcome any difficulties that have to be kicked away. Nobody thought it was great, and nobody shall except for one, me.

P.S. This is not real. I just took this as an experience and made it up in a matter of 34.87 seconds. I timed, of course, after 35 seconds of dreaming, I came up with this idea.

SPORE

You are a small microscopic living cell, living in the depths of the great blue sea. But soon after, you awake from your deep slumber, and start progressing further and further towards the surface of the water. But there are many challenges to face along the way, and you are very easily hungried, so you eat any small parasite that comes in your way. Your journey has begun...
This game called SPORE, is mainly about you where you start swimming here and there in search of food, filling you DNA bar by eating small parasites. Your main objective is for you to fill your DNA bar at the top of the screen to full, and to see if its full of half full, the parts that are filled will be in colour. As you eat, you fill hearts at the top right hand corner of the screen, where there are 5 hearts waiting to be filled. Each heart you fill will make you increase in size, but as bigger creatures touch you, you receive damage and start losing hearts, about half a heart per touch of a bigger creature. Shrink too much, and you become extinct, and the game is over, and you have to restart the whole stage again, reardless of how much you have completed in that stage. But as you progress, you will grow and gain special abilities. Every 3 levels you progress through, you will be given a choice of choosing 4 abilities : OFFENSE, DEFENSE, SPEED and PERCEPTION. There are only 3 stages of each abilities, but unfortunately you will be unable to complete all of the abilities. You can only choose 5 stages, all at your choice. Now let me give you a list of effects for the 4 abilities. The abilities are in order of 1, 2 and 3, which you have to complete the one before before taking the next stage of the ability.
OFFENSE:
1)SPIKES= Pops bubbles and stun enemies
2)TEETH= Bites enemies and does damage to them
3)ELECTRIC= Stuns enemies and does damage to them. Requires 10 seconds to recharge. Press the left soft key or # to activate.
DEFENSE:
1)SCALES= Reduces damage taken from enemies
2)SPIKES= Repels enemies and pops bubbles
3)HIDE= Hide and become invulnerable for a short period of time. Requires 10 seconds to recharge. Press the left soft key or # to activate.
SPEED:
1)TAIL= Increases movement speed
2)FINS= Increases dash-to-food speed
3)JETS= Outswim any creature for a short period of time. Requires 10 seconds to recharge. Press the left soft key or # to activate.
PERCEPTION:
1)EYES= Look at the contents of the bubble and target food from farther away.
2)FEELERS= Points to food
3)LURE= Lures food to your SPORE for a short period of time. Requires 10 seconds to recharge. Press the left soft key or # to activate.
There are 18 levels to pass in this handphone game, with each higher level number you go, the higher the difficulty. Swim past your fears, wnjoy eating and devouring smaller creatures and avoid the huge fat turtles, as when they touch you, you might get hit up to 26 damage without scales which reduce damage taken. And with scales, it can still strike up to 13-16damage! So just avoid the fat ones, will you? But if you have jets, that can outswim any creatures for a short period of time, you can outswim them actually they move ten times slower that usual. But if they go too close together, it is recommended that you turn tail and fly off. Level 15: The only boss in the whole of the SPORE game. The only way to win this stage is to Eat all the little creatures thatare freely swimming around and eat them all up till you are filled with 5 hearts. Then, get behind that big fat snake(what I call it)and spam '5' when you are directly behind him and his tail, and only press '5' when the tail is targeted. Do not care if you have taken some damage, just continuously eat his tail as you will regain some health when you spam eating his tail. The highest combo I got was 96, and my score for that level was 30k++. The higher the combo, the higher the score. Level 18: The most dificult stage in the whole of the SPORE game. There are no small creatures that you can eat to fill up your DNA bar at the start of the level. You got to trick the little red fishies into charging into the fat turtle, and as the life decreases till 0, all the little things that you can eat will swim out and you can eat them, but you must be fast. Just swim round and round the fat turtles and soon the red fishies will charge into them. A word of caution, do not get damaged by the fat turtles, or if not you have a very low chance of surviving.
Good luck on your journey!

Newspaper Article

LA class: Reflection on a newspaper article.
Date:27/2/2009 (Friday-as on newspaper)
I think that Miss Oh, a victim of cerebral palsy, is very resilient in whatever she does, and since cerebral palsy is a brain disorder, can scale Mount Kinabalu. But after she scaled the second highest mountain in South East Asia, she even wrote a book about her life experiences! Wonderful, isn't it? Well, her book is called Scaling Walls which in my opinion means to climb out of your difficulties and into the sunshine at the top of it, where you feel your triumphant from there. The many difficulties Miss Oh had to overcome are: her parents are not well off, and her impaired sister. She had to live under bad conditions of her home, and had to take care of her sister. The good thing is she is resilient and has the determination to do her 'chores'. She has motely friends, which means that they look like they are not supposed or unlikely to be together, but there they are for her. That shows and tells us that we must always stand up for our friends and not dump them one side if they have any disorder. And we must also have the determination and have the correct mindset in doing anything, so that not only can we complete the task, but also benefit from it. Perserverance is another key point that we can learn from Miss Oh. She perserveres in her taking care of her sister and parents and not grumble about it. That show she is a filial child. She perserveres in climbing Mount Kinabalu, despite the many odds she had to face, such as her own disorder. She is a charitable person, and not stingy, as she donates some of her money earned from writing her book to a charity with children with cerebral palsy or any other kinds of disorder.
You can read her book in Jurong Regional Library, and it will be available there, since Saturday,28/2/2009. Her book is truly an inspiring one, as commented by a student in The Straits Times.

IN Control Pg 3
Title: It will knock you out
This is a plot-driven story. To summarize this story, it is about youngsters taking a drug, ketamine. This is story is taken from the past where a 24 year-old girl was caught taking this dangerous drug. Ketamine is an anaesthetic to reduce pain, but some drug abusers take it illegally, like Audrey (not her real name). Ketamine is a party drug, just like Ecstasy. People who consume this drug may get addicted to it, if they do not try to stop, they will surely get caught. Ketamine comes in powder form used to snort up thei noses, or in tablets to swallow. But illegal consumption of this drug can lead to unwanted effects, such as bleeding from the nose, feeling unable to move, be overwhelmed with fatigue or have trouble sleeping. They can even experience hallucinations and feel confused. If you are found illegally consuming ketamine, you can be jailed for up to ten years and a fine of up to $20,000. Audrey was realeased from jail three years less than the eight years she was meant to spend in jail, because of good behaviour.
I think that people who consume ketamine, or any kind of drug for that matter, are being obstinate. They know that drugs who ruin their lives, but why take it? Maybe due to peer pressure? If it was due to peer pressure, they should have enough moral courage to stand up for themselves and say 'NO' to it. If they start to be rude, do not want to be your 'friends', well, do not be then! They are a bad company, and if you feel that you will be lonely without them, and you have no one to talk to, talk to your parents or teachers. They might be able to help and get you some better company. Endure their punishments if they are going to give you any, but always stand up for yourself that you have quitted and not stay in the group. If they say that you are no strong person, tell them you are able to quit the group and not stay on. Then they might look at you from a different perspective. Remember to always stand up for yourself.
If you see your friend doing it, tell them it is wrong and try to get them out of the group. But if he/she persists on staying on, send them for drug rehabilation, if possible. Tell them that their parents would be so furious if they found out, and tell them that how sad they would be, their failure to bring up their kid. Tell him/her all the facts, and mostly the drug abusers would change their minds.

Stranded

This is a phone game, which is quite fun as you are a person in the game called Mark, where you are stranded, as the game calls it, on an island after a shipwreck. Your team members are with you but they only give you hints when playing through the game. Your mission is to complete all missions, obviously, and you have to advance and find the necessary items needed for building your raft to go back to town. What happens after that you have to find out...
The basics, as you know, are moving around and killing wild animals for food. You will be taught on the way to hunt using a bow and arrow, where you have to depend on yourself to judge how much strength to use to fire the arrow to kill the animal, so as to get the meat. Kill the animal, and you have got the meat to heal your life, when wild animals strike you. When you have got the bow, it does not mean that you have an infinite number of arrows, you have to make some arrows yourself. When you do not have arrows, you cannot kill. But in order to see if you have got arrows, you can go and check your inventory slots in your backpack or try moving up to a wild animal and see if it auto-targets at the animal. If it does, look at the top right hand of the screen and see how many arrows you have left. It will be indicated there.
The next thing you have is the fishing rod. You have to fish for food to, and it only uses baits which can be bought or dug up. It does not waste too many arrows, and you must know how to fish. If the fish is restraining, you can see that if you look at the float, if it above the water and not submerged, it means that the fish is not restraining. But if the float is submerged, it means that the fish is restraining and it is a must that you do not pull back the line, mor if not your line will turn red and soon will break. You will lose that fish altogether, but your rod stays intact. Your bait is gone.
The axe, which will be introduced to you in an early stage of the game, can be used to cut trees which will drop out hardwood and some fruits which can recover your life. The hardwood can be used for some quests or make 50 arrows, better that driftwood which can only make 3 arrows. But once the tree is cut down, it will not grow back. You have to wait for a few game days, which will be indicated at the top left hand corner of your screen.
Move around, deeper into the game, and soon you will be meeting up with a tribe, which you can buy and sell things there, gain shells, which is the money in the game. The tribe will help you out a lot, giving you tips along your journey.
Move around, be careful of snakes and boars, they do a great deal of damage to your life, and look out for rare animals, and when you kill them they give you prime meat, the rarest and best of all kinds of meat. Some can only be found at night.
Advance, play and learn how to survive on islands you have never been to before, but it will not be as easy in real life, because this is only a game and nothing else.

Newspaper Article

Home page B4

Title:All in a day's work for men in blue.

This is an idea-driven story. To summarize the story, it is about 2 policemen, SI Tan and Staff Sgt Ridhwan patrol around the blocks to catch some suspicious characters, or answer to resident's calls for help, or when they spot something suspicious and called the police. So on that day, they seem to have many jobs to do, going around checking bags, arresting people, but not for fun, but for the safety for some innocent Singaporeans. Who knows, they might be carrying bombs with them, and one is caught to be an illegal immigrant. At their free time, they go to the blocks where old folks gather and hand them crime prevention phamplets.

I think that they are very hardworking and very committed in their patrol as in that day, they are able to catch a few suspects in one day, and I think that that is quite a feat, as I usually assume that in Singapore, it is very hard to catch criminals. We are able to live in a safe country, all gratitudes towards all the Police Forces, as they catch criminals, suspects or illegal immigrants, day in day out, and never complain about how hard their job is. Staff Sgt Ridhwan ran after a criminal, just to catch him so that he does not hurt others, and he must be very tired by the end of it, but all his effort was fruitful, he caught the criminal. He is very resilient indeed. SI Tan and Sgt Ridhwan caught other suspects during their patrol, that means they are, too, very observant, catching suspects. They also care for the elderly a lot, as if they are not caring, they would not spend their time going to the places where the old folk's visit, and give them phamplets on crime prevention, so as to make sure that they are always under protection.

Rubik's Cube, Megaminx

The Rubik's Cube is, obviously the cube which is in a 3x3x3 format. This is the easiest of all mind boggling hand-held puzzles you can ever think of. Followed closely behind is the 2x2x2 cube, which is then followed by the 4x4x4, also known as Rubik's Revenge, while the most difficult of all hand-held cubes is the 5x5x5 cube, also know as Professor Cube. But, if you are a narrow-minded person, so much the worst, as you can only solve some cubes easily with a fixed centre, like the 3x3x3 and the 5x5x5, like me! I am straight forward and do not like centres that keep on rotating non-stop when you turn the faced itself. This truly pisses me off when I am about to get all sides right, that centre just has to move one step down and the whole thing is so confusing to understand. Well, getting back to the point, the 3x3x3 is the easiest to solve as when you are able to solve the 3x3x3, you would be able to solve any thing that comes in your way, but it must be hand-held, such as the Megaminx, Gigaminx and the Teraminx. All this boils down to one same algorithm, the 3x3x3 algorithm. So the 3x3x3 is like the most powerful and the most elite of all cubes. Know the steps, know the solution.
Well, for the Megaminx, I just recently got it in December 19 or 20 2008, and it was bought from China, and the amazing thing that I can do is that I can solve anything that comes in my way, especially hand-held puzzles, as long as I am interested in solving it. I solved the Megaminx in just 8 hours, not including my sleeping time, as I got it at around 6pm the previous day, and the next day at around 3.50pm-4pm, ABRACADABRA, EUREKA, I solved it! I was like wow, Oh my gosh, I solved it! So I went to show my father, and the only thing he said was,"mmm, good..." and nodded his head. The secret to this is that you must think of the triumph that you will get if you do it, the feeling of greatness in your body, but you must not be too complacent and get all fat-headed. Pride comes before a fall.
So, just use the 3x3x3 method, just a little is changed, such as instead of turning right once, you turn it twice, since this is 5 sides, a pentagon.
Basically, everyone knows how to play it, you just turn the sides to mix it up, and start using algorithms that you have memorised to put into this solving of the 2x2x2,3x3x3,4x4x4,5x5x5, Megaminx,Gigaminx and the Teraminx.
Just to let you know, I am no Rubik's genius, I only know how to solve the 2x2x2,3x3x3,5x5x5 and the Megaminx since I got them all. Thats all I know how to solve and not more than this. 4 is not a great number. Do not start saying 'Waaa he can solve 4 leh', but instead take out your cube and start finding solutions over the internet and solve them yourself. Who knows, you might be able to solve all in just less than 1 month! And that is a feat. =) Just keep trying!

Tumblebugs

Have you ever played any games that you are the launcher of anything, such as balls*, and you got to form three balls of the same colour in order to remove them from the cycle so that you have a lesser number of balls to remove, and not be so confused, unless you are playing the endless mode? Well, this game called 'Tumblebugs' is exactly the same as what you are playing.
Tumblebugs, as the name states it, you remove bugs instead of balls from the cycle. There are many colours, and with each addition of the colours, it will mak it twice as difficult to remove all the bugs from the cycle due to the increasing number of varieties in the cycle itself. It all starts with a story, but only when you are playing story mode, that your 'buggy' friends, as they call it, gets captured by the evil Bug King. And, you know for all games of any type, you are the superhero and are supposed to save the victims in need of help, and you know... save them again.
So you are the launcher and start in the centre of the whole 'bug' cycle, and start shooting fake bugs until you get three in a row will they then fly off, making a gap in between or if both colours on both sides of the gap are of the same colour, they will attract to each other and continue the process. But if there is two bugs of the same colour on one side and one on the other, when they attract, obviously they will fly off, but give you greater points, and giving you a combo. If many combos are gained in succession, the more points you will gain.
Well, the story mode will surely some to an end, so there is a % bar at the top of the screen to indicate how much you have completed. Once you have completed to 100%, the ultimate Superbug will come and help you get rid of some bugs in the line, when advacing nearer to the end, he will 'kick out' more bugs, thus giving you an easier chance to clear off all the bugs.
But, it does not mean you are invincible and will not die. According to the story, their colony is at the centre of the whole cycle, near you, and once the first bug enters the colony, you lose a life and have to restart the whole stage again. But if you lose all your lives, you will have to restart that level all over again and your points would be reset.
Play this game, though it may not be as interesting, it certainly is not very violent and tedious as some games are.

Visual Boy Advance (VBA)

Visual Boy Advance (VBA) is a game console nearly like the Gameboy SP, but the only main difference is that it is on the computer and not portable while the SP is portable. From here I will tell you what are the few sub main differences in both of them. 1st difference is that the VBA is able to set game hacks immediately on the console itself while if you want to set a hack on the SP, you need an ACTION REPLAY catridge or a nintendo GAMECUBE. But in order for you to set hacks on the computer, you need to know the hacks first. Some hacks can be found on Psypokes, just go to any search engine and type in 'psypokes' and look for one site that is somewhat like http://www.psypokes.com/, and from there it will be for Pokemon, Gameshark hacks and all. Psypokes specializes in pokemon game hacks and walkthroughs. Some games on Pokemon that I know that can be played on VBA are versions Crystal, Gold, Silver, Red, Blue and Yellow, not forgetting Emerald. For other games, you have to search it for yourself, and I cannot provide links as I have forgotten them all, sorry for the inconvenience caused.

The 2nd difference is that the VBA can speed up that game process, such that in one second, instead of moving 1 step, you can move up to 80 steps, if your computer system is fast. From a small percent of 101, you can go up to an amazing 8000%! Thats fast right? But there is one disadvantage, world time clock will remain at same speed, and not 80 times faster.

Some hacks for Pokemon Crystal in VBA (only some that I mostly use in order to train very fast) :

Summon Lvl 255 wild pokemon: 01FF13D2

Summon Mewtwo: 019604D2

This are the only two hacks I use in Pokemon Crystal in VBA. The after effects are: For every wild pokemon you defeat, you gain 9000++ exp, trainer's 10000++. Amazing is it? Just to tell you, do not get all worried out to think that you cannot kill the lvl 255 wild pokemon, because if you fight in New Bark Town, the average lvl of pokemon is lvl 3, and if you can kill it in 1 shot, then you do not have worry. Because the wild pokemon that you summon will take place of the defense of the wild normal unhacked monster. But when it attacks, the power be it of a lvl 255, so beware, but the exp points is great.

Download it, it is free! Very fun too, as you can speed up the game process, and set hacks.

Maplestory

(The picture on the left is the Maplestory logo.)
Maplestory is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) where players all around the world can play an can communicate with each other. For Maplestory there are 2 versions of it: the first is the Global version, where anyone in the world can play it; the second is the SEA (South-East Asia) version, where people using the SEA internet can play. Maplestory is very famous as it you can talk to strangers, compete with others, or play with them. In description, people playing Maplestory usually varies from the very young, about 4-6 years, to the retirement age, 65 and above. The main point about this game is that is like real life, and if you are not playing, people or your friends are always playing, and will not wait for you. If they were to wait, the game would be very boring to them. When you want to play Maplestory, you will have to download the game client from the webpage: http://www.maplesea.com/, and go to 'Game client download', and from there look for full game download. Follow the instructions there, and you can play immediately. Do not worry if you do not know how to play the game; they will teach you when you first play it. Throughout the year, you will have to download patches due to some events occuring such as Chinese New Year, or the Christmas season. Your character has many things that must be kept constant throughout during your mapling life, or if not, you will die and lose your EXP (experience) points, slowing down your level up rate. The main thing is your HP (health points). Once it reaches zero when a monster touches you or uses it skill, you will lose HP and die, thus losing EXP, unless you are a beginner. Other things you will see when you enter Maplestory is that your MP (mana points). They are important for using skills. When you use a skill, MP will be deducted from your total MP. Use MP potions to recover and start using the skills again. The things and EQ (equipment) that you need to buy require mesos, which can be gained after killing a monster and picking up what dropped. From there, you can slowly earn money to sustain your needs for your Mapling* life. Though Maplestory is fun, we must discipline ourselves and not play too much or if not it will affect our studies, unless you are a retiree, but even if you are a retiree, spend some time with your grandchildren or children, or go out for walks sometimes instead of Mapling the whole day.

Deal Or No Deal

Deal or no deal is actually a TV show, where they choose people for the 'lucky draw'. The lucky ones stand a chance to win up to $250,000. Though you might not be selected for the show, you can always test your luck on Games, though not real money, but even if you get the lowest amount available, you will not be embarrassed. Not like the real show.

Let me explain the game briefly to you. There are 22 cases, each containing different amounts of money, and you are asked to choose a briefcase, which contains the amount that will be given to you when you last till the end, to keep. Then, you will start opening the boxes one by one, like the real show. From there, you will keep cancelling off the amount of the board, each giving you a better chance to guess what is in your briefcase due to the lesser amount of briefcases left to open. But after every set of opening the cases, a Banker will give you an amount, lesser than the tp amount you can get, of course, and will ask you if you are deal or no deal with the amount, which means whether you are satisfied with the amount or not. If you accept the deal, you will open your case to see how much is in your case. If it is very high, you will regret, but since it is a game, there is nothing to be embarrased, but if it is a small amount, you are sure to be overjoyed.

So, if you open $250,000 from a case, that means you are out of luck. The next amount you can get is $150,000. Slowly, you will know what is in your briefcase, whether you have good or bad luck.

Nintendo DS

About the DS portable game console, it is very famous not because of its dual screen, but because of its touch screen , with a stylus included in the package when you buy it. Its touch screen is at the bottom, and is the main place to play DS games as all the games for the Nintendo DS requires the touch screen. Take for example, the 'Pokemon' version Diamond, all moves the you are supposed to command your 'Pokemon' to use to defeat the other enemy, requires the you to tap on the touch screen, using your fingers or stylus, for the moves and other commands.

There are 2 versions of Nintendo DS. The original version is the one above at the top, while the later version, Nintendo DS lite, is below the Nintendo DS. If you want to compare between the 2 versions, the DS lite is certainly a better choice to buy as it is smaller, thinner and lighter, and has 3 different light brightness. This can only be changed in the Start Menu of the DS. That is the great advantage between Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite. While the DS lite has some great advantages, the Nintendo DS also has one good advantage: it is much sturdier than the DS Lite as it has a harder casing, thus making it heavier, while the DS lite has a much lighter and weaker casing, so it might break easily when first dropped, not like the Nintendo DS.
So if you are planning to buy a DS, and you are a careless person, i recommend that you buy the Nintendo DS and not the DS lite. If you are a person that expects high qualities of things that you buy and wants to play high quality stuff, I recommend that you buy the Nintendo DS Lite.

Gaming

I know that many of us like games, and especially hand-held games as they are portable. As for me, I also love to play hand-held games such as handphone games and the very famous 'Gameboy' or 'Nintendo DS*', and the DS, regardless of Lite (Nintendo DS lite) or the original version, it is still equally popular among all children and even adults.
For handphone games, I love to play the game 'Deal or No Deal' or 'Beowulf'. For the 'Gameboy' or the DS, i love to play 'Pokemon', which is a very famous game on the computer, DS and 'Gameboy', and i have played almost all the 'Pokemon' games before, with the exception of a few. Usually, for computer non-internet games, i do not play honestly, such as the 'Pokemon' game on the computer, they have installed a hacking tool on the gaming device that makes you become invincible to all other monsters.

P.S. *= Nintendo Dual Screen
